RANGELEY – State highway workers patching potholes on Route 17 Tuesday morning discovered a motorcycle over an embankment and, after further searching, found the body of a Mexico man.
Eugene Lavorgna, 41, died as the result of injuries when his bike crashed about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, police said.
Rangeley police officer Steve Townsend said a highway crew noticed parts of a motorcycle while working on the highway at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday.
There were no skid marks, Townsend said, but tracks leading from the road showed that the motorcycle, which had been heading south toward Mexico, left the road and landed 355 feet away.
The motorcycle was not visible from the road, he said.
The bike was discovered close to the tree line on the road and Lavorgna’s body was found in the woods, Townsend said.
