The Lewiston Youth Advisory Council is seeking help to site Lewiston’s 1891 E. Howard clock as a three-level attraction at Lewiston City Hall.

Formerly located in City Hall’s clock tower, its mechanisms would be placed in a glass encasement on the building’s second floor landing with a 14-foot encased swinging pendulum extending through the floor to the Pine Street entrance. Given the distance between the second floor encasement and the tower’s clock faces, a substantial amount of engineering would also be needed for residents to view the time.

The timepiece was restored in 2002, and the proposed siting has the potential to become a symbol of community pride. If displayed as proposed, the timepiece would no doubt become a destination point for residents and tourists alike.

We cannot complete this project alone, as this effort needs funds and in-kind donations. Our goal is $20,000, and the youth council is requesting that the community join together as a generation who preserves its history instead of letting it dissolve.

Together we have the capability to make this project a reality. Time is ticking.
