Please ask the Associated Press for a refund of whatever sum the Sun Journal paid them for today’s front page story “Traffic Heavy During Exodus.”
The AP says: “An estimated 180,000 vehicles were expected to travel south on the toll road Monday with traffic peaking between noon and 6 p.m. Toll operators reported around 4,000 cars an hour during that peak period.”
My arithmetic: 4,000 per hour times 6 hours is 24,000 vehicles. 180,000 minus 24,000 is 156,000 – or more than 8,500 vehicles per hour for the other 18 hours Monday.
A slap on the wrist for your front page proof readers, too. They were probably euphoric at the thoughts of how much of that 20 percent per copy price increase that the newspaper implemented Monday would be theirs.
