Established in 1997, Loaves and Fishes has loaned more than $150,000 to families in crisis.

SABATTUS – Modern Woodmen of America helped to boost the spring fund-raising effort of Loaves and Fishes by matching the money earned in a bottle drive in May.

“We are very grateful to Modern Woodmen and to Jean Fournier, in particular, for the generous donations to our fund-raisers, providing food to numerous families, and taking part in our Loaves and Fishes program, which supports people in emergency/crisis situations,” said Sister Lucille Fournier, program director.

“Our volunteers will accept the challenge of another matching grant for a bottle drive anytime.”

Established in 1997, Loaves and Fishes has loaned more than $150,000 to families in crisis for needs such as utility bills, taxes, fuel, replacement furnaces, prescriptions, emergency airline tickets, mortgage payments, car payments, car repairs, home repairs and rent security deposits. The food pantry serves more than 100 families in the Sabattus area.

Loaves and Fishes fund-raisers are held throughout the year. They include garage sales, variety shows, concerts, potluck suppers, raffles, bottle drives and donations of money, time, talent and resources.
