FARMINGTON – Selectmen voted Tuesday to spend an estimated $1,800 to fix ornamental streetlights in downtown Farmington.

People and dogs are getting shocked when they touch the light poles, Town Manager Richard Davis said. He said the poles are poorly grounded, Davis said.

The lights were installed when the downtown underwent a revitalization and concrete sidewalks were put in years ago.

There are about 20 of the lights on Main Street and Broadway.

It may have something to do with the weather, Davis said.

Selectmen have moved quickly on fixing the lights, Davis said, because it is a safety issue. The money for the unanticipated expense will come out of the streetlight account.

Moelco Inc. of Jay will do the necessary repairs.

Davis said he told selectmen the lights are getting old, and they may want to replace them at some time.
