FARMINGTON – The Gold LEAF Institute Senior College at the University of Maine at Farmington will begin its program year with an open house and a kickoff from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, in the North Dining Hall of UMF’s Olsen Student Center.

This is open to anyone who is over the age of 50 and is interested in lifelong learning activities that are fun and pressure-free.

Topics this term include “Nutrition and the Quality of Life,” “The Book Discussion Group,” “Current Events Study Group,” “Portland Histories and Duck Tour,” “The Nature of Autumn Trees,” “Ecological Landscaping,” “Introduction to Gilbert and Sullivan,” “Training in Community Access TV,” “Moths and Butterflies,” “Taking Care Yourself While Taking Care of Others,” “China: A Brief Look,” “Women Under Islam” study group, a play at the Lewiston Public Theater and “Two Wheels Abroad,” a bicycling travelogue.

The kickoff will include an explanation of the fall-term classes and events, a chance to sign up for membership and the offerings, entertainment and refreshments. Jeep Wilcox, the “Woodland Bard” from Rangeley, will share humor, poetry and storytelling.
