MOUNT VERNON – Chris Powell was indicted by a Bangor federal grand jury Wednesday on a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The indictment charged that Powell, 32, of Mount Vernon, “an armed career criminal,” having been convicted of crimes in Maine punishable by imprisonment for more than a year, illegally possessed a firearm, according to a press release sent out by the U.S. Department of Justice.

Powell faces a minimum sentence of 15 years in prison on the charge, if convicted, the release stated.

Powell was allegedly connected to numerous burglaries in seven counties, including Franklin County. He was indicted by a Franklin County grand jury on three counts burglary and two counts theft in July.

Powell and co-defendant Glen Michaud, 41, of Augusta were arrested in April and at the time were suspected of committing up to 80 burglaries.

The Franklin County charges stem from Jan. 3 break-ins at the Carthage Town Office, and at Bear Hill Variety and USA Concrete, both in Phillips.
