AUBURN – Kathy Harder netted the game-winning goal less than two minutes into sudden death as Edward Little pulled out a 2-1 win over Oxford Hills in KVAC field hockey action Thursday.
The Vikings (2-1) struck first with an unassisted goal from Brianne Thompson to take a 1-0 lead into the half. Gina Gaetani responded for the Red Eddies (3-0) with a relay from Brittany Roberge to even up the score and send the contest into sudden death.
Goalie Val Sean made 12 saves for the Vikings, while Mary Martin stopped nine shots to keep the Red Eddies undefeated.
Leavitt 2, Maranacook 0
READFIELD- Leavitt’s Laura Pratt scored the winning goal on a penalty stroke late in the second half to nudge Leavitt to a 2-0 win over Marancook.
Samantha St. Hilaire also scored for the Hornets.
Camden Hills 3, Oak Hill 1
CAMDEN – Suzanne England scored the eventual game-winning goal with just 1:10 left in the first half to lead Camden Hills to a 3-1 win over Oak Hill in KVAC field hockey action Thursday.
Jodi Newcombe notched the first goal of the game for the Windjammers (1-2), and she assisted England on the final pair. Jill Lizotte converted a relay from Julie Lizotte to net the lone Raider (0-3) goal of the contest.
The Windjammers applied consistent offensive pressure, out shooting the Raiders 22-3 and forcing goalie Noel Hinkley to make 13 saves. Georgia Smith had for stops for Camden Hills.
Soccer
Monmouth 3, Mt. Abram 1
SALEM – Kelsey Condon scored the eventual game-winner late in the first half to lead Monmouth to a 3-1 victory over Mt. Abram in MVC girls’ soccer action Thursday.
Following an unassisted goal by Alex Gauthier, Condon picked up a cross from the right side by Gauthier to nail down a 2-1 lead at the midpoint for the Mustangs (3-0). Bianca Cloutier netted an insurance goal midway through the second half.
The Roadrunners (1-2) kicked up a bit of offensive dust, outshooting the Mustangs 13-5. Monmouth goalie Barrett blocked 11 shots, while Brianna Wilkins and Kim Johnson combined in net for Mt. Abram.
Winthrop 7, Halldale 2
FARMINGDALE- Kaitlin Dunn carried her team with a hat trick to give Winthrop a 7-2 victory over Halldale.
Dunn, assisted once by Emily Knight and the other time by Elizabeth Helton, scored two of the three goals one after the other and all of them were toward the beginning of the first half.
Ashley Falcone smashed two goals in as well.
Jill Knight and Allison Galichi each scored for Halldale.
Halldale’s goalie Lindsay Marin had 21 saves during the game.
Dixfield 3, Mtn. Valley 1
RUMFORD – Kayleigh Daley guided an unassisted goal into the net early in the second half to lift Dixfield to a 3-1 win over Mtn. Valley in MVC girls’ soccer action Thursday.
Alexia Kaubris scored the first goal of the contest and contributed an assist on the safety net late in the second half for the Cougars (1-1). Tanya Nicols converted a pass from Kristen Arsenault for the lone Falcon (1-1) goal in the first half.
Falcon goalie Sasha Theriault was kept busy in net deflecting 19 shots, while Cougar goalie Jessica Blaisdell had breathing room with five saves in the win.
Oxford Hills 2, Cony 1
AUGUSTA- Annie Foster and Janaya Millett each scored a goal late in the second half to propell Oxford Hill’s to a come from behind win of 2-1 over Cony Thursday.
For Cony’s effort, the single goal was scored by Maggie Rendie and assisted by Haley Naugh.
Lisbon 1, Boothbay 0
LISBON – Candice Abray scored the only goal of the game in with 1:04 left as Lisbin topped Boothbay.
