Rebekah reception
AUBURN – Mercena Abrams, district deputy president of District 3 of the Rebekah Assembly of Maine, will be honored at a reception given by Liberty Rebekah Lodge 94 at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, at the Odd Fellows Hall, 50 Elm St.

Sodality meeting
LEWISTON – The first meeting of the season for the Ladies of St. Ann Sodality of Holy Family Parish will be held Wednesday, Sept. 17, in the church hall. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and a buffet supper will be served at 6.
Tickets are $6 and can be obtained by calling Ginette Gladu at 782-5150 or any of the officers. The menu will consist of chop suey, meatballs, salmon casserole, chicken and ham finger rolls, tossed salad, fruit salad, veggie platter, chips and dip, cake, coffee and tea.
A general meeting will follow, highlighted by installation of new officers and re-instatement of remaining officers. Entertainment will be a singalong.
Clock hanging
POLAND – The Poland Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, in the newly renovated old schoolhouse on Maine Street, Poland Corner. AUBURN – The Woman’s Literary Union Garden Club will hold its first meeting of the season at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at the clubhouse on Elm Street. Douglas Beck will speak on birding and how birds expand their territories as an indication of environmental changes.

Seniors meal
AUBURN – First Auburn Seniors will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, at the American Legion Hall, Washington Street. Members should take their cups and table utensils for the beans and franks dinner. After the meal, bingo will be played.
At the Sept. 3 meeting, President Betty Hebert introduced Norma Gyure, a new member. The fall fair will be held Oct. 18 at the Hasty Community Center with Bill Redmun as chairman. Flea market tables may be rented by contacting Frances Robitaille at 783-3026.

Cemetery talk
AUBURN – Discover the history and heritage of the long forgotten cemeteries of Androscoggin County with Roland G. Jordon, member of the Maine Old Cemetery Association.
Jordon will discuss the cemeteries and graveyards that dot the countryside at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at the Auburn Public Library. He will unravel the meaning behind the monuments and artifacts and shed light on the epitaphs.

Garden class
LISBON FALLS – The University of Maine Cooperative Extension in Androscoggin and Sagadahoc counties will offer an 80-hour Master Gardener Volunteer Training starting in October. The program seeks to train participants in the plant sciences. Participants, in return, volunteer their time to help others be successful in growing healthy plants.
Participants receive nearly 80 hours of training and agree to volunteer 80 hours to community service projects. This year’s program will focus on food production and landscape gardening. University of Maine Cooperative Extension specialists and other experts will provide in-depth training.
There are a limited number of seats available and, after interviews, applicants will be notified of their acceptance one-week prior to the start of the course.
