LEWISTON – Fifteen tiny bags of heroin mistakenly delivered to the wrong address have landed an Arizona transient in jail.

When the unintended recipient opened the drug-filled package he called police Thursday, according to Gerry Baril, a special agent supervisor with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.

Police tested the contents. Baril dressed as a delivery person to bring the package to 284 Main St.

Once Jeremy Moon, 24, took it, he was arrested, Baril said. He was charged with aggravated trafficking in schedule W drugs, Ecstasy, and possession of scheduled W drug, heroin. Charges were aggravated because he lived less than 1,000 feet from an elementary school.

A search warrant for the apartment turned up more than 80 grams of Ecstasy, money, electronic scales and stuffed animals riddled with holes. Police say the toys may have been used to hide drugs in transit.

Moon is formerly of Anderson, Ind., and Wilcox, Ariz. He and his wife, Rachel, were vendors who traveled from concert to concert, Baril said. Their last show was in Limestone last month with the band Phish.

Driving home from that show, Baril said Jeremy Moon fell asleep at the wheel, drove off the road and got in an accident that left Rachel seriously injured.

She’s being treated in a local hospital. Moon was living with their 2-year-old son at the 284 Main St. apartment.

Baril declined to name the hospital, commercial delivery company or the first person who unwittingly opened the package, saying he did not want to embarrass them.
