On Aug. 29, a car killed a dog on Brock School Road in Buckfield. The car didn’t stop. I guess my question is: How can anyone hit a dog hard enough to kill it and not know it? At the time the dog was killed, two cars went by going fast. The first car didn’t slow down, but the second one did. Looks to me as if someone knew what happened.

I know a dog shouldn’t be in the road, but what if it had been a person? Would the car that hit it stop, or would they just look and keep going? I have grandchildren who cross this road a lot, as their father lives across the road from us. We emphasize stopping and looking both ways when crossing, but sometimes, youngsters forget. They depend on responsible people to drive sensibly.

The speed limit on this road is 35 mph. A lot of people don’t observe it, as they know this road is seldom checked by law enforcement. Just a few minutes of sitting above my house, especially weekends, would get results.

I know they can’t be here all the time, but occasionally it would slow cars down. Sometimes looking the other way is easier. If I can get the plate number from a speeding car, I most certainly will. It is time someone steps down on speeding. Guess it seems to some people that it draws attention to their maturity – wrong.
