It seems to me the Auburn City Council is by-passing protocol and policy in asking for the resignation of Bob Mennealy. If Mennealy’s performance is deemed unacceptable, his constituents should be given the opportunity to vote him out of office during the election process.
Mennealy was originally elected by his constituents because he is not afraid to demand answers to his questions or take a stand against city hall. He acts on what the citizens want instead of bowing to the group.
Many voters are questioning why so many tax dollars are spent for plazas, hotels and hiring of a law firm while school budgets get cut, fire department contracts need renegotiating and police officers still work without a contract. Why doesn’t the city take care of important issues such as our schools, fire and policemen?
Mennealy asked for documentation regarding tax-dollar allocation. It is one of the three primary functions of the city manager to provide the councilors with sufficient, well-researched information. If there is a problem with information flowing, the citizens of Auburn should know about it. Thank you Councilor Gerry for acknowledging his feelings of potentially being stonewalled in an executive session.
I applaud the announcement that Mennealy has no intention of resigning. And no, I will not stop clapping. I say enough is enough, please start serving and protecting the health, safety and quality of life for the people of Auburn.
