JAY – Chuck Maheleris, from Sen. Susan Collins’ office in Lewiston, will meet with Jay residents from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, at the Community Building. He will meet with Jay selectmen at 6 p.m.
Maheleris plans to spend the next few months meeting with city and town officials in Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties to discuss their specific issues and needs related to the federal government. He will also meet with residents to address their concerns and inform them of the resources available through Collins’ office.
Square dancing lessons offered

Health topics on TV
FARMINGTON – Franklin Community Health Network has a new television show on Mount Blue television’s Channel 11, a community access channel provided by BeeLine Cable TV in Farmington and Wilton.
On Sept. 16 and 18, Marie Wade, Franklin Memorial Hospital director of physical rehabilitation and sports medicine, will speak on “What is Physical Therapy?”
On Sept. 23 and 25, Nancy Morgan, United Way executive director, and Leah Binder, United Way campaign co-chair, will discuss “How the United Way Keeps the Community Healthy.”
“Prescriptions for Health” is a 30-minute talk show hosted by Dan Marois, the health network’s marketing director. It airs every Tuesday and Thursday on Channel 11 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. The show focuses on people, programs and health services that affect the greater Franklin County area.
Trip to Tanzania
FARMINGTON – Steve Bien, president of the Western Maine Audubon Society, will present a slide show and talk at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, in the North Dining Hall of Olsen Student Center at the University of Maine at Farmington.
He’ll describe a trip that he and his family took to Tanzania last winter to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Travelers to Africa have to expect the unexpected, and this trip had its share of unexpected twists and turns. Is ecotourism a good industry for a developing country or is it exploitive? Are animal and habitat preservation forms of modern-day colonialism? This slide show will be part travelogue and part exploration of some controversies that surround international wildlife preservation.
The program is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Western Maine Audubon Society.
Hunter safety
WILTON – A hunter safety training program will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at the Wilton Fish and Game Club on Route 2. For more information, people can phone 897-2740.
Harvest supper
RANGELEY – The Catholic Women’s Club of Our Lady of the Lakes Parish will hold its annual Harvest Supper from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Kemankeag Lodge Hall on Richardson Street.
The menu will feature a full-course turkey dinner, homemade pies and beverages. The cost will be $7 for adults and $3.50 for children 12 and under.

Horse ‘day camp’
FARMINGTON – A kids and horses day camp will be available for ages 6 to 16 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Running Brook Stables. Activities include grooming, leading, breed demonstration, riding styles, health and nutrition basics, training methods and riding.
