In regard to Ms. Rebecca Gross’ article (Sept. 7), “A tear for humanity,” I do feel sorry for the people of Hiroshima and Nagasaki; but, there is no doubt in my mind that had either Japan or Germany had an atomic bomb, they would have used it on one of our cities.
I do not regret our country using it to shorten the war. Had the war dragged on, thousands of our fighting men would have been killed or wounded.
My outfit duty was to land troops in Japan and keep them supplied. It was estimated that there would have been 85 out of a 100 in my outfit who would have been killed or wounded. I probably would not be here today had we had to invade Japan.
