AUBURN – Western Avenue residents should expect some minor delays beginning this week.

Auburn City Engineer Steve Ranney said crews were scheduled to begin digging along Western Avenue as part of the storm water separation project.

Crews will be closing Dana and Hillside avenues and Merrill and Summit streets at Western Avenue this week as part of the work.

“The good thing is all of this work is along residential side streets,” Ranney said. “It shouldn’t be a significant impact for most drivers, just the people that live there. And we coordinate with the residents, making sure that they can get access and emergency vehicles can get through.”

Ranney said the work should be done this fall.

Crews will also be on Court Street doing some minor patching and cleaning up of this summer’s biggest Auburn road project. The work passed the state’s substantial completion inspection last week. Ranney said only a handful of minor jobs need to be done.

State crews are scheduled to begin work on the road again next spring, grinding down the asphalt and putting a new surface on Court Street, Granite Street, Spring Street and Mount Auburn Avenue. That work is scheduled to go out bid in January, he said.

Lewiston preps

In Lewiston, crews will be concentrating on getting roads ready for paving. Paving contractor Pike Industries will be working elsewhere in Maine this week, leaving city crews to get roads ready for the coming weeks.

Public Works Director Dave Jones said crews would be doing preparations on College, Burbank, Bates, Nimitz and Nell streets, Michaud and Fisher avenues and Randall and Old Webster roads.

Paving work on the Main Street project should continue this week, however. Jones said contractor Blue Rock paving should be closing lanes on the road between Stetson Road and Greene town line beginning late in the week.
