OES reception
AUBURN – A reception for the district deputy grand matrons for the year will be held Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St.
They are serving for Gloria J. Bowen, worthy grand matron, and William H. Stretton, worthy grand patron, Grand Chapter of Maine, Order of the Eastern Star.
District deputies being honored are Nancy Fuller of Springvale, District 1; Julieanne Irving of Portland, District 2; Martha Salimeno of Waterford, District 3; Josephine Dupal of Lisbon Falls, District 4; Maxine Perkins of Oxford, District 5; Audrey Stevens of Strong, District 6; Flora Stack of Belgrade, District 7; Roberta Griffin of Waterville, District 8; and Elizabeth Benner of Damariscotta, District 10.
A receiving line will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. with the reception to begin at 3. All Eastern Star members, Masons and friends are welcome. Refreshments will be served after the reception.
Degree Day
MINOT – A Degree Day to confer the first four degrees of the Grange will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at the West Minot Grange at the junction of Routes 119 and 124.
A supper will be served by the host Grange for a small donation between the second and third degrees. The day is being sponsored by Androscoggin and Oxford Pomona granges. For more information call 998-2301.
Welding class
TURNER – A basic welding class will be presented by SAD 52 Adult and Community Education and instructed by Jim Cloutier beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 23. The eight-week program will teach the proper welding supplies and equipment.
Classes will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at Leavitt Area High School. Students will need to supply safety glasses. To register, visit the Adult Ed office at 486 Turner Center Road, Turner Center, or send in the form from the fall catalog.
Benefit concert
AUBURN – The Auburn Community Band will present a benefit concert from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, at the Auburn United Methodist Church, Park Avenue.
There will be a love offering taken to benefit Calvary United Methodist Church’s City Mission Project. The project works in and around the inner city community that surrounds Calvary United Methodist Church on Sabattus Street through free lunches and dinners, a Saturday Cellar program consisting of a contemporary worship services and a free dinner and an after-school homework center.
