NORWAY – Norway Memorial Library is holding its library card sign-up during September and October. Children who receive new library cards during these months will have their pictures taken.

Jacket, coat sale

NORWAY – Stephens Memorial Hospital Thrift Shop will hold its annual jacket and coat sale from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Sept. 18 and 19, and from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20. The thrift shop is located on Danforth Street, across from Norway Savings Bank.

Depth Yoga

HARRISON – Classes in Depth Yoga will run from 3:35 to 4:45 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, through Nov. 11 at the Harrison Community Room. Another class will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Ballroom on Main Street.

Students can attend either class for the entire session, or on a drop-in basis. The class will be taught by Paula Gates who has a master’s degree in psychotherapy and holistic studies.

She has been teaching yoga since 1971 and is a registered yoga teacher. She has been in private practice in body-mind therapy for more than 15 years.

Stroke screening

NORWAY – Residents living in and around the Norway area may be screened to reduce their risk of stroke. Life Line Screening will conduct stroke screening with appointments beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at the Norway Municipal Building, 19 Danforth St. Strokes are ranked the third-leading killer in the world, and the second among women. Screenings are fast, painless and low-cost, and involve the use of ultrasound technology. Each screening requires 10 minutes or less to complete. A complete vascular screening package that includes the stroke, carotid artery, abdominal aortic aneurysm and ankle brachial index or hardening of the arteries is $99. Belly dancing class

NORWAY – An introductory Middle Eastern Aerobic Dance class will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays beginning Sept. 29 at Art Moves Studio. Tai chi classes

NORWAY – Beginner tai chi classes will be offered from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. Mondays for eight weeks beginning Monday, Sept. 29, at the Ripley Medical Building Harper Conference Room at Stephens Memorial Hospital. Tai chi is the gentle Chinese movement art that has been recognized by the medical community as excellent for improving balance and increasing joint flexibility.
