Alan Gove is still absent from his position.

LIVERMORE FALLS – Town Manager Alan Gove is still on personal leave, Chairman Bill Demaray said at the selectmen’s meeting Monday night, the only comment he would make on the situation.

However, Demaray did announce, at the opening of the meeting, that the public session would end at 8 p.m. so the board could go into executive session with attorney Lee Bragg. The only explanation he would give of the reason for the session was for “legal issues facing the town.”

Demaray, speaking for the entire board and office staff, expressed his appreciation to the staff at the town of Livermore for help in getting the tax bill outs.

“This was above and beyond being a friendly neighbor,” Demaray said as he noted that the town didn’t even have the necessary paper for the printing. “It’s nice when towns work together.”

In other business, the board agreed to Town Clerk/Treasurer Kristal Flagg’s request to close the office to the public one day a week until Clerk Dawn Young returns from her medical leave.

“We need something to get our work done, instead of taking work home,” she said.

Flagg said she is so busy, with the current situation (no town manager and a clerk out sick) she has been unable to keep up with her regular work. Sewer Clerk Faith Nichols noted that she has sewer liens that need to go out in three days, something she has not been able to do.

Wednesday was the day chosen to close the office to the public each week until further notice. The phones will be put on the answering machine and the staff will be able to work undisturbed.

The board voted to hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. Oct. 6, their next scheduled meeting, on the Judd trailer situation on Route 17. The matter was brought to them by Code Enforcement Officer Brenda Medcoff as it appears the Judds are in violation of their original permit to have two trailers on a single lot.

This has been a long-standing situation that has been complicated as the couple received a permit from the code enforcement office to replace a trailer that had burned. However, she did not know the history on the lot because a complete file of the original conditions was not available.

Sherian Judd maintains she was issued a permit, spent a lot of money on the replacement trailer and is being treated unfairly.

Town officials all agreed that the town has too many problems for the code officer to solve in just 10 hours a week, the time for which she is paid.

In addition to the Judd situation, there are problems on Otis Street where unregistered cars are being parked, and on Gilbert Street, where debris is piled.

The board voted to authorize Medcoff to take legal action, as needed, to enforce the town’s ordinances.

Matt Weeks told the board about his plan to open a pool hall for kids in the Shoppers Mall. He had planned a Depot Street location but will now move into the former grocery store in the mall, he said. He will be appearing before the Planning Board at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Selectman Bernal Lake will look into a problem with the front door at the library and Selectman Doreen Maheux will loan her floor cleaner to use at the library. Roger Ouellette, president of the library association, agreed to do the cleaning.
