AUBURN – September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month – a time when the American Library Association and libraries across the country remind parents that the most important school supply of all is at the library – it’s a library card.
For her Girl Scout Bronze Award project, Sara Spellman of Girl Scoup Troop 277 will host a fun event to encourage local children to register for and use their library cards.
Library Card Day is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, on the side lawn of the Auburn Public Library. It will be held in the children’s department if weather is poor.
Activities will be geared to children in grades two through six, but the whole family is invited. Spellman will help children decorate canvas book bags that come equipped with a special pocket to hold a library card. She will also lead a storytime and a tour of the children’s department. Library personnel will be on hand to help children and parents sign up for their cards.
Book bags are available for decorating at $2.50 each. Registration for the program is limited; visit or telephone the library to register.
Those who live in Auburn or Lewiston may obtain a free card. Contact the library at 782-3191, extension 3, for details about library card rules and information about other library programs.
