AUGUSTA – David A. Wilby has been named executive director of the Independent Energy Producers of Maine.

Wilby brings substantial public policy experience to statewide association as a former senior adviser to both Gov. Angus S. King Jr. and Sen. William S. Cohen on energy and natural resources issues.

“We are fortunate to have Dave as executive director, allowing us to draw upon his extensive public service experience at both the state and federal levels,” said President Scott D. Hall. “IEPM has long been an effective voice for renewable energy, and I’m confident that we’ll have continued success under Dave’s leadership.”

Wilby’s role will include providing information to the public and serving as a source for the media on energy issues, including the role of renewable power in Maine, Hall said.

“I am delighted to join IEPM,” said Wilby. “This is a critical time for the renewables industry, with debates ongoing in Augusta and Washington about reliance on foreign oil and the impact of fossil fuels on the environment.”

Wilby previously worked in the energy field as a consultant for Portland-based Firth Associates, Inc. Wilby is a graduate of Bowdoin College.

Since 1994, IEPM has been the voice of renewable energy producers in Maine. A not-for-profit association of renewable power generators, suppliers of services to those generators, and other supporters of the industry, IEPM represents the industry before the Maine Legislature, the Maine Public Utilities Commission, and regional and federal policymakers.

IEPM power producer members generate electricity in a sustainable manner from hydroelectric, biomass, waste to energy, and wind.
