FARMINGTON – Steve Bien, president of the Western Maine Audubon Society, will present a slide show and talk at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, in the North Dining Hall of Olsen Student Center at the University of Maine at Farmington.

He’ll describe a trip that he and his family took to Tanzania last winter to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. This slide show will be part travelogue and part exploration of some controversies that surround international wildlife preservation.

The program is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Western Maine Audubon Society.

Training tutors

WILTON – Registrations are being accepted for a Tutor Training Workshop sponsored by Literacy Volunteers of Franklin and Somerset counties. It will be 5 to 8 p.m. every Thursday from Oct. 9 through Nov. 13 at the CareerCenter in East Wilton.

The Literacy Volunteer program trains tutors to assist adults with basic reading skills using a variety of books and materials.

There is a $15 fee for workshop materials.

Hunter safety

WILTON – A hunter safety training program will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at the Wilton Fish and Game Club on Route 2.

Horse ‘day camp’

FARMINGTON – A kids and horses day camp will be available for ages 6 to 16 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Running Brook Stables. Activities include grooming, leading, breed demonstration, riding styles, health and nutrition basics, training methods and riding. All children must be registered and accompanied by an adult.

Harvest supper

RANGELEY – The Catholic Women’s Club of Our Lady of the Lakes Parish will hold its annual Harvest Supper from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Kemankeag Lodge Hall on Richardson Street. The menu will feature a full-course turkey dinner, homemade pies and beverages. The cost will be $7 for adults and $3.50 for children 12 and under.

Benefit tourney

WILTON – A golf tournament to benefit Mount Blue High School’s boys’ basketball will start at 9 a.m. Oct. 4 at Wilson Lake Golf Course. It will be in a scramble format. Crafts fair

LIVERMORE – A community crafts fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Livermore United Methodist Church. Eight tables are available, free of charge, for interested crafters.
