LISBON FALLS – Lisbon Adult and Community Education fall semester classes began on Sept. 15. Openings are available in some classes.
Biology with lab began Tuesday running from 6 to 9 p.m. Chemistry with lab will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays starting Sept. 18. Both classes meet college prerequisite requirements. Enrollment will remain open for these two classes through Monday, Sept. 22.
A math refresher class will begin on Oct. 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. The class is designed to meet the needs of adults who plan to take college placement exams or who need to review math for employment purposes.
Principles of Accounting I will meet for 15 weeks from 6 to 9 p.m. beginning Sept. 25. An application has been submitted to Central Maine Community College for the course. If the application is approved, students will have the opportunity to earn college credit this semester. Details will be provided at the first class meeting.
A Quickbooks Pro 2000 class will begin Thursday, Sept. 18, and will meet for eight weeks from 6 to 8 p.m. Keyboarding/Typing will meet for 10 weeks from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. starting Sept. 23. An Introduction to Powerpoint class will start Oct. 1 and will meet from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
American Red Cross recertification classes will be offered in adult, infant and child CPR and in first aid. The CPR course will meet from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Sept. 30 and the first aid class from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 1. A certified baby-sitting class for students ages 11 to 14 will begin Oct. 2 and run for seven weeks.
A beginning class in American Sign Language will start on Oct. 2 and will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. The class will meet for seven weeks. A substitute teaching class will begin on Sept. 30. The class will meet for six weeks from 2:45 to 5 p.m. and will include tours of Union 30 schools.
A photography class will begin Sept. 22 and will meet for five weeks from 6 to 9 p.m. The course will focus on composition and framing photographs and will include techniques for portraits, landscapes and family photos.
Students will learn the basics of drawing in a class that will include a focus on line, contour, rules of perspective and elements of design. The class will begin Sept. 25 and meet for eight weeks from 6 to 8 p.m. A creative writing class will begin on Oct. 9. The class will give students the chance to explore their creativity in writing in a supportive and informal atmosphere.
Two foreign language classes will be offered. Conversational French will begin Oct. 7 and Beginning Spanish on Sept. 22. Both classes will meet for eight weeks from 6 to 8 p.m.
Two safety classes have openings. An ATV safety class is scheduled to begin when 10 people have enrolled. The course will meet for three weeks from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and will include all the basic rules for safe operations and state laws on liability. An eight-week boating safety class sponsored by the Wawenock Power Squadron will start Sept. 24 from run from 7 to 9 p.m.
