1925 – 2003
SCARBOROUGH – Roy W. Wandell, 78, formerly of 17 Webster Road, Lisbon, died Thursday evening, Sept. 4, at the Maine Veterans’ Home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Aug. 22, 1925, a son of Roy Charles and Florence (Judd) Wandell. He was educated in Brooklyn, N.Y., schools and was a lifelong resident of this community.
Mr. Wandell was a Military Veteran having served his country in the 106th Infantry Division of the Army at the Battle of the Buldge during World War II.
While in the Army, he was recognized for his bravery and heroism as he received a Silver Star, 4 Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. After the service he spent many years working as a building contractor spending most of those years in commercial construction.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Church, VFW Post 9459 in Lisbon and American Legion Post 158 also in Lisbon. In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and target shooting.
He leaves a daughter, Vera E. Wandell of Peekskill, N.Y.; a son, Roy of Lisbon; two grandchildren, Roy J. Wandell and Amber Wandell; and a sister, Elizabeth Nielsen and husband Theodore of Highland Falls, N.Y.
He was predeceased by a sister, Florence Zimmerman of Shrub Oak, N.Y.
