AUBURN – The city will host its annual open house from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 20. The event is a chance for city departments to meet and greet citizens and to showcase new projects and services.

City departments will also discuss current issues and their plans for the future.

“This is a great opportunity for citizens to not only catch up on what’s going on in the city, but also to meet all the departments at one time and in one place”, said Laurie Smith, Auburn’s community relations manager.

This year’s open house will include a child safety workshop by the Police Department and a Teddy Bear Clinic by the Fire Department.

In these, Auburn police will be on hand to teach families about crime prevention and to fingerprint children to create an identification package for parents in case children become missing or lost.

The firefighters will welcome children and their favorite stuffed animal for a tour of the rescue vehicle and all the medical equipment it contains.

Teddy bears will have their heart rate and blood pressure checked by city rescue personnel to familiarize children with the workings of an ambulance.

As in previous years, attendees can take part in a questionnaire scavenger hunt and win prizes, which include gift certificates, bicycles and a night’s stay at the new Hilton Garden Inn hotel in downtown Auburn.

During the open house, the Hilton Garden Inn staff will be giving tours of their new facility at 11 a.m. The tour will give an overview of meeting spaces, banquet facilities and guest rooms. Interested parties should be present in the hotel lobby a few minutes before the tour begins.

The open house will include a wide variety of activities and interests for people of all ages, including department presentations, face painting, car seat checks and backhoe skill tests.

Refreshments of coffee, punch, and baked goods will be provided as well. For more information on the open house, people can contact Auburn City Hall at 786-2421.
