SABATTUS – A Livermore Falls woman found lying along Route 126 last week remained at a Lewiston hospital Thursday night.

Police meanwhile were continuing to inspect a truck and discarded tires they believe may be associated with the incident that left 42-year-old Leslie Stasulis in critical condition.

Stasulis was found shortly after midnight Friday laying in the roadway near Long Beach in Sabattus. The owner of a Lewiston bar, Stasulis was either run over or beaten and left in the roadway, investigators said.

Over the weekend, State Police investigators seized a white pickup truck belonging to a Litchfield man they believe is connected to the incident.

Police detectives have also been investigating to determine if the tires of the confiscated truck may have been changed just hours after Stasulis was found in the roadway, officials said.

State Police have not identified the owner of the truck. No charges had been filed by Thursday night.

Stasulis suffered extensive injuries to her face, head and chest, police said. Friends of the victim said she had been arguing with a boyfriend the night before she was hurt.

Sabattus police began investigating the case after Stasulis was found in the roadway by a couple driving along Route 126 Friday morning, police said.

One investigator said the victim was in and out of consciousness when she was found. But her injuries were believed to be life-threatening from the start, police said.

Stasulis’ family members asked that no information about her condition be released to the press. She has remained at Central Maine Medical Center since she was found.

State Police joined the probe because the case may involve a homicide or attempted homicide, police said.

Stasulis is co-owner of Leslie’s Place, a bar at 339 Lisbon St. in Lewiston. With more than a dozen detectives working the case, police said they are focusing on where Stasulis was and who she might have been with in the hours before she was hurt.

Stasulis has five children, at least some of whom live in the Sabattus area.
