1929 – 2003
PORTLAND – Philip Pollard, 74, of Gray, died Sept. 18.
Born in Gray July 10, 1929, son of James W.B. and Sarah Hansen Pollard and graduated from Pennell Institute in 1947.
Mr. Pollard worked in the grocery business for over 55 years, first as a buyer and warehouse manager for A&P, then owner of the Gray IGA from 1980 to 1992. He continued to work at the IGA until his retirement in 2002.
He was a former Selectman, member of the Library Committee, MSAD 15 School Board, local Jaycee organization, and Cumberland Masonic Lodge 12. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Spring Meadows Country Club.
He is survived by his wife, Viola Hatch Pollard whom he married in 1950; two daughters, Susan Pollard of Gray, Nancy Pollard Titcomb of Sanford; a son, Edward Pollard and wife Karen of Monmouth; sisters, Barbara Ryan, Jane Barton, Donna Hill all of Gray, and Geraldine Cose of Mass.; five grandchildren, James Titcomb, Sarah Titcomb, Kelly Day, Brittany Scirica, and Lindsay Scirica.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Vernon, James, and Richard; and one sister, Priscilla Lavalle.
