HARTFORD – Citing over-involvement and lack of time to perform all of his civic duties, Chuck Kraske has resigned from the Planning Board.

His resignation was regretfully accepted by the Board of Selectmen on Thursday night.

Earlier in the meeting it was said an alternate was needed for the Planning Board.

Selectman Chairman Scott Swain suggested the other selectmen talk to people over the next two weeks and have some names to bring to the next selectmen’s meeting. Anyone interested in being a member of the Planning Board may talk to one of the selectmen.

Code Enforcement Officer Kay Hawkins reported that two of the people she sent junkyard citations to have responded by doing some cleaning around their yards. One resident had his yard cleaned, but it was put into a gravel pit.

Selectmen agreed to send the junkyard ordinance back to the ordinance committee for clearer criteria of what constituted a junkyard. They all agreed that all residents would be treated the same in violations.

Road Commissioner Bim McNeil said he had almost completed work on Town Farm and Pratt Hill roads and would be doing some grading if the weather held. He also has a few culverts to replace. He reported that the Beaver Dam is gone on Stetson Road in a bog, but water was backing up again.

Three bids had come in for putting a new roof on the town office. All three bids were over the town budget of $6,000, so all were rejected.

Swain said they would put the roof on hold until they can decide financially what can be done.

Selectmen are discussing requiring people who do work for the town to show proof of insurance.

Swain and Hawkins will be meeting with Dow/Scott Law Associates for a second opinion on the lake site dispute with Kenneth Mains.

Scott said people must receive a building permit before beginning any building project. This is mandatory.
