LEWISTON – When Marge Garstechi read a recent SEARCH program newsletter, she noted that a woman in Poland needed an exercise bicycle in order to strengthen her legs.
Garstechi had one that wasn’t being used, so she called the SEARCH program to donate it. A few days later, SEARCH volunteer Laurie Moravek drove Phyllis Newcomb to the SEARCH office to try out the exercise bike. After making a few adjustments, Newcomb was pedaling to her heart’s and legs’ content.
“Phyllis lives in a rural area where it is not always possible to find good walking surfaces,” said Phoebe Lowell, program director. “She has been hoping for an exercise bike for a long time, and we are thrilled that Marge Garstechi met that need. We also appreciate Laurie’s willingness to transport the exercise bike back to Phyllis’ home and set it up for her.”
