1913 – 2003

WILTON – Beatrice C. Hutchinson, 90, of Wilton, died Friday morning, Sept. 19, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Adrian “Butch” Wells Sr., with whom she had lived for the past three years.

She was born Jan. 11, 1913, in Norridgewock, the daughter of Bernard and Mae (Slocam) Hutchinson. She attended schools in Norridgewock and Solon and graduated from Solon High School. In 1932, she graduated from Farmington Normal School and on Oct. 30, 1932, married Harland N. Hutchinson in Hampton, N.Y.

She started her teaching career in a two-room schoolhouse in East Dixfield. She taught briefly in other area schools and retired from the Whittemore School in Phillips.

She and Harland spent winters in Florida, until he passed away in 1983. She continued to go by herself and enjoyed her many friends there. She was an avid birdwatcher and enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels. She also spent time doing all kinds of handiwork and raising flowers.

One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grand and great-grandchildren; she spent many hours in their company and was always available to play a game of cards with them. She attended the Fellowship Baptist Church in Zephyrhills, Fla., and Calvary Hill Baptist Church in Wilton.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Adrian Wells Sr. of Wilton; granddaughters, Penny Ross and her husband Brian of Fairfield, Va., and Pam Woodcock and her husband, Steve of East Wilton; grandson, Adrian “Butch” Wells Jr., and his wife, Cindy of Chesterville; seven great-grandchildren, Shain Woodcock and his wife, Amanda, Scott Woodcock, Sam Woodcock, Trevor Ross, Andrew Ross, Katlyn Wells and Alex Wells.
