STRONG – Police were looking for two cars Friday they believe are involved in daytime burglaries at homes in Strong and Weld. They say the burglaries are connected because the same methods were used at both sites.
Police also have a partial identity of one of the suspects.
Franklin County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a burglary that occurred between 9 a.m. and noon Friday at a Chandler Road residence in Strong, Sheriff’s Lt. Niles Yeaton said.
Entry was gained through a back door, he said, and the place was ransacked.
It was unknown at the time if anything was missing, Yeaton said. Owners were not home at the time of the burglary, he said, but arrived after it occurred.
“We have witnesses,” Yeaton said.
A car police believe is involved in the burglary is an early 1990s maroon, two-door Pontiac Sunfire with a large dent in the passenger-side door.
The car has a wide black stripe along the bottom of the vehicle, Yeaton said, and a relatively loud exhaust.
A partial description was obtained of a man in the maroon car: dark hair, a goatee and wearing a dark baseball hat.
County deputies and Farmington and Maine State police officers blocked exits on the roads leading from the home but couldn’t catch up with the Sunfire, Yeaton said.
A second burglary occurred between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at a home on Route 142 in Weld, Yeaton said.
Entrance to the residence was gained in a similar manner to the Strong burglary, and everything was ransacked, he said.
It was not immediately known if anything was taken, Yeaton said. The vehicle sought in connection with the Weld burglary is a blue Ford Tempo.
If anyone has information in either burglary, Yeaton has asked they call the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office at 778-2680 or 1-800-773-2680 and ask for Deputy Heidi Gould.
