AYS blanks Mt. Valley

LIVERMORE FALLS – Area Youth Sports (AYS) of Jay-Livermore blanked Mountain Valley 30-0 Thursday in the Western Maine Seventh-Eighth-Grade Football League. AYS is now 2-0 on the season. Mountain Valley of Rumford-Mexico falls to 0-3.

Walton League meeting

RICHMOND – The Maine Chapter of the Izaak Walton League will hold its first annual meeting on Sunday, Oct. 5 at the Richmond Sportsmen’s Club. There will be a skeet shoot at 1 p.m., a family barbecue at 4:30, and an election of officers meeting at 5:30. There will be door prizes and raffles. All outdoor enthusiasts are welcome. RSVP for barbecue ($6.50).

Punt, Pass, Kick contest

PORTLAND – The Southern Maine Raging Bulls will be hosting an official NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass and Kick competition at halftime of its game on September 27. The Bulls will be hosting the Woonsocket Sentinels at 7 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Stadium.

Age groups for the youth event are 8-9, 10-11, 12-13 and 14-15, with boys and girls competing separately.

Field hockey planned

AUBURN – The Auburn Rec Adult Field Hockey Program is held Sundays at 3 p.m. at Cleveland Street Field through November 2. More information can be obtained by calling the Auburn Recreation Department at 784-0191.

Youth hunt is today

AUGUSTA – Maine’s 2003 Youth Waterfowl Hunt is set for today. This special day provides youth with the opportunity to be introduced to waterfowl hunting. The weather is warm, the ducks are abundant and the chance for success is excellent.

Participants must be 10-15 years-old, possess a junior hunting license (no stamps required for junior hunters), and be accompanied by an adult who is at least 18. The adult must be the parent or guardian, or a parent- or guardian-approved person who either holds a valid Maine hunting license or has successfully completed a hunter safety course.

Shooting hours are one-half hour before sunrise to sunset.
