BETHEL – Selectmen will face a short agenda when they meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, in the town office.

Action items include:

• Authorizing the Bethel Fire Department to apply for a Maine Municipal Association Fall 2003 Safety Grant of $2,940 to purchase 36 pairs of gloves (cost $40 per pair), six new helmets at $150 each, and six new pairs of boots at $100 each. Assistant Chief Mike Jodrey said MMA pays two thirds of the cost of safety equipment for firefighters up to $3,000. Local matching funds will be drawn from the Fiscal Year 2004 Fire Department Budget.

• Approving an amendment to police department policy concerning utilization of wrecker services. According to Police Chief Darren M. Tripp, the amendment requires that wrecker services used in rotation by Bethel police must be located within the Town of Bethel.

• Approve a sewer system development charge application for Avery Angevine at 49 Evergreen Road.

Other discussion topics include communications from U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, the Planning Board regarding prioritization of ordinances for review, the 2003 State Valuation Analysis by the Board of Assessors, and Robert Blake, regarding the status of certain town ways.

In other municipal business, the Board of Assessors are slated to meet on Wednesday, Sept. 24, to set Bethel’s mill rate.
