LOVELL – The Lovell Historical Society will be presenting “Living in Lovell: The Fall Harvest,” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27. The program will focus on the old-time fall harvest practices in the area.
At the Kimball-Stanford House on Route 5, Patrick Williams of the Eastman Hill Stock Farm will demonstrate the operation of a cider press and will also have a unique variety of apples and cider for sale.
Over the past eight years Eastman Hill Stock Farm has created a rare collection of about 50 antique varieties of apples, some of which are original to Maine. Williams will be available to discuss apple tree grafting, cider production and all aspects of the fall harvest season in Maine.
“Living in Lovell: The Fall Harvest” will also include a sale of seasonal baked goods, an exhibit of historic photos relating to the fall harvest, and an array of historical, hand-operated harvest tools.
The event is free and open to the public. Thanks to the generosity of Eastman Hill Stock Farm and its owners, Fred Horton and Katherine Ryan, all apple sale proceeds will be donated to the Lovell Historical Society.
