Fayette: Board lowers tax rate

Selectmen reduced the tax rate, awarded the town’s propane contract and accepted bids on two town vehicles at their meeting Sept. 15.

They set the property tax rate at $20 per $1,000 valuation.

Town Manager James Collins was pleased. “This is half a mill lower than last year’s rate,” he said.

The propane contract was awarded to Irving Oil.

Some positions were filled. Kent Mitchel was named alternate plumbing inspector and Karen Arsenault was hired as deputy town clerk, deputy tax collector and deputy treasurer.

Bids were accepted on two used town vehicles.

A 1991 Ford B700 Blue Bird body school bus was awarded to Calvary Baptist Church of Turner for $800, while the successful bidder on a 1986 GMC 1500 truck with a 300-gallon water tank was Bernie LaVerdiere for $781. This truck was previously used by the fire department.

The town recently posted a need for volunteers to fill openings on various boards and committees. The selectmen appointed Abby Holman as alternate on the Planning Board; Jean St. Clair as alternate Board of Appeals. Richard Toothaker and Brent St. Clair were appointed as members of the Budget Committee.

New Sharon:

Selectmen find nothing new

New Sharon selectmen met on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at Town Hall.

“Not much to report, we paid some routine bills and settled a tax matter. Nothing newsworthy,” reported James Smith, first selectman.

The selectmen meet every other Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
