I’ve been reading the letters about the casino and have seen the negative commercial from Ms. Mills, and I need to add my opinion.
Several years ago, Maine, being such a poor state, wanted to start a lottery. They told the people of Maine that if they vote for this lottery, it would help the schools, help fix the highways and – the cream of the crop – help relieve property taxes.
Take a look at what’s going on. The schools are worse now than ever before. The highways are worse than they were before. And we’re paying not less but more taxes then ever before.
If the Native Americans want this casino, I say let them, hopefully they do what they promise and our property taxes would come down or maybe we wouldn’t have property taxes to pay.
I’ve been in this state for 45 years, and if I know it, even if the casino brings in billions of dollars, the state will find a way to keep it and find excuses not to lower the taxes or do any of the other things they say they’ll do. Our state government is greedy.
