MEXICO – Selectmen will review a policy on public access to police records and listen to a presentation on possible inclusion in a state-created economic Pine Tree Zone when they meet Wednesday.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Calvin Lyons Hall of the town office. The selectmen’s meeting will be preceded by a special town meeting and public hearing on a Community Development Block Grant at 6 p.m.

Town Manager Joseph Derouche said the Community Development Block Grant hearing and town meeting are called to clarify the responsibilities of the town for sponsoring the application for the $400,000 grant that will be used in neighboring Rumford. The money is for part of the development of the River Valley Technology Center.

River Valley Growth Council Economic Developer Scott Christiansen and assistant Rosie Bradley will describe the benefits and responsibilities for the town of Mexico if it joins with area towns to try to become a part of a Pine Tree Zone. Derouche said the board voted to get involved in the quest at a previous meeting and will likely vote to join at Wednesday’s meeting. A Pine Tree Zone would provide a considerable number of tax incentives for businesses that decide to locate there.

The board is also expected to adopt a new policy on public review of police records, listen to a proposal by Dan Mitchell on an all-terrain vehicle trail through a portion of the town, and receive an update on the town and historical society’s booth that will be on display at the Sept. 26-27 River Valley Expo.

Closed sessions are scheduled on the finalization of the review of the town manager’s job performance, discussion of a possible business venture, and a legal update on the Farrington Mountain landfill appeal.
