FARMINGTON – The Farmington/Wilton/Jay Trail Project will host the first Rail Trail Challenge on Sunday, Sept. 28.

The challenge is intended to raise awareness for the trail and to benefit the Rail Trail Project, a community organization involved in trail improvements to provide safe alternative transportation. That would include building a bridge over the Sandy River between West Farmington and Farmington.

Options within the challenge include:

• A 5-mile point-to-point running race beginning at 9 a.m. at Steve’s Market in Dryden and finishing at the Titcomb Mountain Ski Lodge in West Farmington. Entry fee is $10 for those who preregister and $12 the day of the race.

• A kids’ run will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Titcomb Mountain Ski Lodge. Entry fee is $5 for preregistrants and $8 the day of the race.

• A relay walk will start at 7 a.m. in Jay and cover the 13 miles from Jay to Farmington. There will be special prizes for any team with a member from all three towns, Farmington, Wilton and Jay.

Entry fee is $10 for those who preregister or $12 the day of the race.

Preregistration is suggested and the first 50 to preregister will receive T-shirts. Same-day registration for the run and walk will be available from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. at Titcomb Mountain.
