1933 – 2003
LEWISTON – Richard G. Daoust, 70, of Turner formerly of Mechanic Falls died Saturday morning, Sept. 20, at d’Youville Pavilion.
He was born in Boston, Aug. 14, 1933, the son of Alphonse and Ruth Sarasin Daoust. He attended trade school in Haverhill, Mass. He moved to Maine in 1968 with his family and worked in the shoe industry as a stitching room foreman. He later worked as a boiler operator in the powerhouse at Pineland Center for 20 years, retiring when Pineland closed in 1995.
He faithfully served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict, aboard the USS Brough. He held an amateur radio license and was known as DXER to his buddies, he also repaired ham and CB radios. He was a member of the Skystreakers RC model airplane club in the 1970’s and 80’s.
“Dick” loved animals, birdwatching, going to air shows and was a big Red Sox and Patriots fan. He enjoyed helping people. On Oct. 24, 1964 he married Margaret Farley.
Survivors include his wife of Turner; a daughter, Ellen of Turner; a sister, Susan Sulesky and her companion and good friend Kevin Burnell; two nieces, Rene and Michelle; an aunt, Mildred Day; a nephew, Steven Day and his wife Jen.
He was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth Day in 1994.
