LEWISTON – L/A Toastmasters Club 1741 will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23 at the Bates Mill Complex, first-floor conference room, 35 Canal St.
The program will be a humorous speech contest featuring Joyce Kennedy, Shan Teixeira and Theresa Weeks.

Rotary speaker
LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club will meet at noon Thursday, Sept. 25, at the Ramada Inn. The speaker will be Rich Pelletier, representative for the pro-casino group, “Think About It.”
Anyone interested in the topic or in knowing more about Rotary is invited. Luncheon cost is $7.
Grange to install
AUBURN – Danville Junction Grange 65 will hold installation of officers on Thursday, Sept. 25, at the grange hall. Officers will be installed by State Steward Patrick Brewer and his team.
A 6:30 p.m. potluck supper will precede the meeting. All grangers are welcome.
Biology class
TURNER – A general biology with lab class will be offered by SAD 52 Adult and Community Education. The 10-week course, taught by Rema Lee Weston, will begin Tuesday, Oct. 7, with classes from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the Adult Learning Center, 486 Turner Center Road.
Participants will study the cellular process, organismal biology, genetics, ecology and the environment.

Boot camp
SABATTUS – The Young Marines of Central Maine will conduct its second Boot Camp for the year starting in October, announces Commanding Officer Robert Juneau.
Before becoming a Young Marine youth must graduate from Boot Camp. After 25 hours of instruction the recruits will be graded by their peers on all subjects covered and a written test will be taken.
The Young Marines meet from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on the first and third Saturdays of the month at the Old Sabattus Town Office. The cost is $125 for the first year, arrangements can be made and $25 every year after. The program is for youths boys and girls ages 8 through 20 if still in school.

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on Sept. 16 at the Multi-Purpose Center. North/South winners in Flight A were: first, Fred Letourneau and Martine Begert; second, Jeanine Kivus and Rosemarie Goodwin; third, Roger Briggs and Lucille Bilodeau; fourth, Randall Silver and Marguerite Zahoruiko. Flight B winners were: first, Roger Briggs and Lucille Bilodeau; second, Joann Morris and Marta Clements.
East/West winners in Flight A were: tied at first, Richard Balian and Nick Karamessinis with David Lock and Patricia Garcia; third, Larry Fortier and Terry Gendron; fourth, Luke Merry and Claire Lyons. Flight B winners were: first, Richard Balian and Nick Karamessinis; second, Larry Fortier and Terry Gendron.
The club will play again on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at the Multi-Purpose Center.
