OXFORD – The Boxberry School is leasing space to a pair of artists, who will teach fine arts from one of the classrooms there.

Artists Pat Chandler of Norway and Deb Lewis of Bethel will be teaching a full schedule of classes in fine arts to students and adults from throughout the Oxford Hills community, using a large classroom at the school. The full schedule of classes in fine arts will begin in October.

School Director Georgina Grenier will be teaching art to the Boxberry School students, but there might be some crossover, said Chandler, particularly after school and on weekends.

The alternative elementary school will start with two multiaged classrooms of no more than 12 students, representing grades one and two. Boxberry School founders welcome the opportunity to have Chandler and Lewis use one of the classrooms on a 10-month lease, Chandler said.

The nonprofit school is located at 301 Webber Brook Road, behind the Tri-County Mental Health Center. Its vision is to offer each child an education that blends the arts, creative thinking and academic challenge.

Its brochure states that the school values “the arts highly as a means enhancing learning in all subjects, as well as providing balance and time for personal growth during the school day.” Children will also learn math, reading, writing and science, putting their knowledge to use in hands-on projects.

An open house will be held at the school from 6 to 8 p.m Sept. 25. For more information phone 836-2285 or 743-4463.
