WEST PARIS – The flag at the town’s War Memorial will be flown at half-staff all day Thursday in honor of Selectman Harlan Abbott, Vernon Inman and William Aridas who all died as a result of a plane crash Sept. 14 near Greenville.

Selectman Chairman Wade Rainey said he and Selectman Howard Gurney thought flying the flag at half-staff would be an appropriate way to honor and remember the three men as the town bids farewell.

“Howard and I felt lowering the flag” at the War Memorial “would be a good way to honor Harlan, Vernon and William as they are all veterans and residents of the town. As a result we contacted Gov. John Baldacci who agreed with us and gave his approval to the plan.”
