WGME-TV opens a broadcast facility on Main Street.

PORTLAND – WGME News 13 has opened a newsroom studio in downtown Lewiston.

The new facility at 198 Main St. features a street-level studio that allows for the city’s downtown to be the backdrop for newscasts. The studio also gives the public a chance to see the behind-the-scenes action from outside floor-to-ceiling windows.

To celebrate the opening, WGME is broadcasting “Live at 5,” its 5-p.m.-to-6 p.m. hour of news, weather and sports, from the new L-A newsroom the week of Sept. 22-26. The shows will be hosted by WGME News 13’s Kim Block and Gregg Lagerquist, and will feature a series of special Lewiston-Auburn stories from L-A reporter Lucas Colavecchio. Dave Santoro will be on hand to broadcast weather reports from Lewiston and Auburn.

On Thursday and Friday, Sept. 25 and 26, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., WGME 13 will host a public block party open to all on Chapel Street, next to the new studio at 198 Main St. Free food, entertainment and activities for the kids will be offered, and it will be broadcast live on WGME News 13.
