1914 – 2003
AUBURN – Florence Merkle Merrill, 89, a longtime resident of Gibbs Mill Road, Livermore died Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Clover Manor Nursing Home.
She was born in Farmington on Sept. 20, 1914, the daughter of Francis and Martha Robinson Merkle. She was the widow of Frank A. Merrill who passed away in 1988. She was educated in the schools of Livermore Falls, graduating in the class of 1933.
Mrs. Merrill was a member of the North Livermore Baptist Church and had served as a Sunday school teacher, assistant clerk and clerk for several years. She was a member of the American Baptist Women, a member of the Mizpah Circle of the Kings Daughters and Sons and a member of the Livermore Center Neighborhood Club, where she served as treasurer, and also a member of the Senior Adults of North Livermore.
She had been employed as a stitcher and inspector for Livermore Shoe Co. in Livermore Falls for 21 years, retiring in 1975. She enjoyed gardening, her flowers and sewing.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. David (Betty) Bryant of Jay and Mrs. Glen (Mary) Merrow of Livermore; a sister, Mrs. Martha Goodwin of Auburn; a brother, Francis Merkle and his wife Helen of Livermore Falls; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a sister, Carol Hamel; and a brother, George Merrill.
