FARMINGTON – The American Baptist Women at Henderson Memorial Baptist Church will sponsor a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at the church on Academy Street.

Sept. 27 walk-athon

WILTON – The Franklin County Children’s Task Force is preparing for the annual walk-athon, “Make Tracks For Kids,” to be held Saturday, Sept. 27, at Kineowatha Park. All the money raised supports the programs of the Children’s Task Force in Franklin County and the Livermore Falls area. There is still time to join the event. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the walk begins at 9 a.m. Walkers have a choice of a 1-mile route or a 5-mile route. Make Tracks for Kids is an inclusive walkathon since people may walk, ride a bike or horse, use a wheelchair or push a child in a stroller. People can phone 778-6960 for more information or can stop by the Children’s Task Force at 113 Church St. in Farmington to pick up a team packet.

Waste collection

JAY – The Jay Recycling Facility and Transfer Station will participate in the annual household hazardous waste collection day to be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 27.

Jay residents can take hazardous materials such as insecticides, pesticides, weedkiller, oil-based paint, paint thinner, antifreeze, mercury containing products and household cleaners to the recycling facility for disposal.

There will be no charge to Jay residents. For more information, people can call 897-5552.

Scarecrows

PHILLIPS – The 13th annual scarecrow reunion will be held Saturday, Sept. 27, at the lot on Main Street. Judging will be at 10 a.m. on that day. Stakes for the scarecrows will be provided earlier in the week. The scarecrows will be left attached to their stakes until Oct. 9 in order to give visitors two full weeks to visit the grouping. Scarecrows need to be weatherproof and able to withstand high winds. Advance registration is required. Entries must be in one of four categories: adult, children, family and group, such as Scouts, churches and nursery schools. Participants do not have to be from the area. Cash prizes will be awarded if there is enough participation. Registration is $5 and may be paid at Phillips Hardware Co. For more information, phone Winona Davenport at 639-4296.

Career planning

FARMINGTON – Maine Centers for Women, Work and Community will offer an 8-day basics of Career Planning training from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 29, 30 and Oct. 1, 3, 6, 7 and 8 in Farmington. This training will help participants to identify their personal values and how to express them through their career. They will also review their skills, interests and experiences and relate them to career options and explore work, education and training possibilities. They will learn to write a resume, interview with confidence and conduct a winning job search. There is no fee for participants. Church revival

FARMINGTON – The Mount Blue Assembly of God will hold revival services Sept. 28 through Oct. 1 with a guest speaker, Pastor Ken Bosse from Raymond, N.H. Services will be at 10:45 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday, and nightly at 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. The Sunday and Monday services will focus on “End Time Messages” with an emphasis on salvation. Tuesday’s service addresses “Baptism in the Holy Spirit” and “Divine Healing” on Wednesday. All are welcome.

Alzheimer’s group

WILTON – Lynette Hinkley, activities director at the Sandy River Center for Health Care, will speak on appropriate activities for people with memory impairment at the Oct. 1 meeting of the Alzheimer’s Support Group.

This group, for family members, friends and caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s type of dementia, meets at 6 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month at the SeniorsPlus Community Center located on Routes 2 and 4.

For immediate answers to questions about Alzheimer’s or help with the day-to-day problems that come up, people can call the Alzheimer’s Association hot line at 1-800-660-2871. The hotline is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Crafts fair

LIVERMORE – A community crafts fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Livermore United Methodist Church. Eight tables are available, free of charge, for interested crafters. Literacy tutors

WILTON – Literacy Volunteers of Franklin and Somerset Counties will hold a tutor training workshop starting Oct. 9 at the CareerCenter in East Wilton. Sessions will be from 5 to 8 p.m. each Thursday evening through Nov. 13.

The Literacy Volunteer program trains tutors to assist adults with basic reading skills using a variety of books and materials. To register for this workshop, phone Joan Moes at 778-3460 or (800) 322-5455.
