GREENE – SAD 52 voters Tuesday authorized a $6.3 million loan to pay for building projects at schools in Greene, Leeds and Turner. The vote total was 274-178, district Business Manager Chris Trenholm said.

In Greene, the vote was 208-146 in favor. The money will help finance new construction and renovation at the Greene Central School, replacing portable classrooms there.

In Leeds, the vote was 59-30 against. Work at the Leeds Central School will include a better parking lot entrance.

And in Turner, the vote was 98-58 in favor. Money will be used to replace leased space at Tripp Middle School, repaving and parking area work at Leavitt Institute, Trenholm said.

The next step in the process is a final design, then bids will be sent out this winter. Financing through a bond or note will be secured for construction to start in the spring, he said.
