AUBURN – Community Little Theatre will offer classes beginning in mid October. Colleen Mahan, seen on CLT’s stage in “Nunsense,” “Brigadoon” and “The Sound of Music,” will teach a variety of acting classes for students ages 8 to adult. Classes will run once a week for six weeks. Deadline for registration is Wednesday, Oct. 8.
Mahan has advanced degrees in music and acting from Boston University, San Diego State University and Trinity Rep Conservatory, Providence, R.I. She has more than 20 years of experience in performance and directing at professional and community theaters and teaching in her private studio, schools and theaters on both coasts.
All classes will include physical and vocal warm-ups, theater games and monologue work. Memorization will be required in all classes, and an informal presentation for family and friends will be made on the last day of class.
Creative Drama (grades three to five) is storytelling through action and dialogue. The focus will be to create a short play on an existing story and ideas from the students. The process will involve physical and vocal development, movement, imagination exercises, improvisation and ensemble building. Each student will be assigned a monologue. Memorization of lines will be necessary. Parents will be invited to the final day so that students may share their experience.
Acting for the Stage 1 (grades six to eight) will focus on character exploration, movement and script analysis through scene study and monologues. Each class will involve warm-ups (physical and vocal), movement, improvisation and imagination games. Each student will be assigned a short scene and a monologue.
Scene work or a short play will be done in class. Memorization of lines will be necessary. Parents will be invited to the final day so students may share their work in progress.
Acting for the Stage 2 (grades nine to 12) will focus on character exploration, movement and script analysis, done through scene study and monologues. Each class will involve warm-ups (physical and vocal), movement, improvisation and imagination games. Each student will be assigned a short scene and a monologue.
Scene work will be done in class. Memorization of lines will be necessary. Parents will be invited to the final day.
Acting for the Stage 3 (adults) will follow the syllabus of Acting for the Stage 2, but with adult characters and themes. If the class desires, a final presentation will be made to family and friends.
