RANGELEY – The 10th annual Apple Festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Church of the Good Shepherd on Main Street. It’s sponsored by the Rangeley Lakes Region Logging Museum.

A beef stew luncheon begins at 11 a.m. Klara Haines and other volunteers will also serve hot dogs, sandwiches and many apple desserts, including Steve Richard’s sweet and crunchy apple crisp.

Homemade apple baked goods will be for sale inside the church including pies, breads, jellies, muffins and cookies. Crafts from the region will fill the church undercroft. Frank and Audrey Stevens will bring their wood crafts, knit goods and homemade doughnuts and breads. Margaret Yezil of Oquossoc will offer creations such as placemats, toy moose and Christmas items.

Rangeley’s artisans will be well-represented by Pilar Bates and the Giving Tree. The women from the American Legion will provide white elephant items and a 50-50 raffle.

The museum will offer its publications, “Logging in the Maine Woods,” “The Paintings of Alden Grant” and “Working the Woods” as well as T-shirts and sweatshirts. The museum’s raffle items include a wood carved dog by Rodney Richard Sr., a doll with a handmade christening outfit, an afghan and a moose pillow.

On the church lawn, Richard will lead other volunteers as they demonstrate apple pressing and cider making. Visitors are welcome to bring their own apples to be pressed. Harnden’s Harvest Hutch of East Wilton will offer apples and cider for sale.

A father-son team, Rodney Richard Sr. of Rangeley and Rodney Richard Jr., of Pownal, will use their chain saws to make Maine animals from blocks of white pine.

Admission to the festival is free. For more information, people can call Rodney and Lucille Richard at 864-5595.
