CHESTERVILLE – The Town Office will be closed until 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, so that the town clerk may attend a motor vehicle workshop.

Benefit auction

FARMINGTON – The United Way will hold a benefit auction starting at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at the Granary Restaurant and Brew Pub. Preview of the items will begin an hour prior to the auction. Adrian Harris will be the auctioneer. More than 100 items have been donated for this event. It will benefit the United Way and its 25 partner agencies. The public is invited.

Courses for trainers

FARMINGTON – The Extension Homemakers Board meeting will be 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at the Municipal Building.

The “Train the Trainer” courses will begin at 12:30 p.m. Anne Moody will lead a program on using culinary herbs and Megan Burns will lead one called “Food Mood Link.”

There will be some taste testing but those participating are being reminded to bring their own bag lunch.

Preparing for hockey

FARMINGTON – The Western Mountains Hockey and Skating Association is inviting all prospective players and their parents to a meeting at 7 p.m. Oct. 8 in the Mount Blue High School cafeteria.

The association will provide a free hour-long skating session soon at Kents Hill School to introduce the ice hockey program to any interested skaters between the ages of 8 to 11. Before deciding on a date, this Oct. 8 meeting, which is mandatory for players, needs to be held.

Prospective players do not need to have any previous experience with hockey. The game and skating skills will be taught. A practice/scrimmage will be held once a week at Kents Hill School. The hockey program is open to all young people regardless of where they live.

Benefit for golf team

JAY – The public can support the Jay High School golf team by participating in a Fall Fairways Golf Tournament and Silent Auction on Saturday, Oct. 18. The tournament, in scramble format, will be held at Maple Lanes Golf Course on River Road in Livermore. A prime rib dinner and awards to low gross and low net teams will follow the tournament.

The $30 registration fee covers nine holes of golf and the dinner. People can register individually or as a team of four for the 2 p.m. shotgun start.

All proceeds will be used for scholarships and equipment for the high school golf team.
