WATERFORD – The fourth annual Fun Run and 5K Road Race was held Oct. 14 with more runners than ever ranging in age from 3 to 75, according to race coordinator Martha Eaton.

The 1-mile Fun Run had 217 participants this year, a large increase from last year. Daniel Rounds, 12, of Bridgton came in first with a time of 7:02. For the girls, the first place winner was Morgan McCIean,11, of Bridgton, with a time of 7:09.

The 5K race had 130 participants this year, with several groups of walkers, and one Waterford resident, Whizzer Wheeler, who unable to run the race, but wanting to participate, used his arm powered bike.

Winning the overall first place was.Miles Bartlett, 15, of Casco, with a time of 17:25 setting a new time for this race. In first place for the women, was Sherrie Keim, 42, of Casco, with a time of 19:58. Keim had run a race in Falmouth earlier in the morning. Second place for the men went to Michael Trundy, 43, of Hebron, last year’s winner, with a time of 17:27, with third place going to Eric Favreau, 15, of Buxton,. with a time of 18:15. Second place overall for the women wend to Mandy Ivey, 15, with a time of 21, and third place to Becky Harkema, 38, of Scarborough with a time of 21:32

Door prize drawn after the race went to the following: Nan Brett, Teresa Koziak, Kevin Swan, Debbie Bain, Rusty Wiltjer, Dennis Paladino, Marta Cistecky and Carol Brett.

The Bridgton Chamber of Commerce provided vendors for the Chili Cook-off, won this year by the Sudbury Inn of Bethel.

The race is a highlight of the fall season in Waterford, and provides scholarship money for the Tony Waldeier Memorial Fund . Two $500 awards were presented this year.
