LEWISTON – Hooked on Books, a parent/child book discussion group at the Lewiston Public Library, will begin the season reading “In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson” by Betty Bao Lord.

The first meeting will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4. Children ages 8 to 12 and their parents are invited to register in the Children’s Room and pick up a copy of the book.

The book group offers an opportunity to encourage young children to read for enjoyment. Through this program parents nurture their children’s love for reading by enjoying the books with their children, either reading separately or together, then discussing the book at the library.

The group gathers on the first Saturday of every month for a discussion, followed by a craft or dramatic interpretation of a portion of the book. Some books that participants have enjoyed in the past are “Holes,” “Because of Winn Dixie,” “Lost on a Mountain in Maine” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”

The book will be “Babe the Gallant Pig” by Dick King-Smith in November, and in December the group will discuss “Tiger Rising” by Kate DiCamillo.

Hooked on Books will meet every month through July. For more information call the Lewiston Public Library at 784-0135, extension 4.
